Updated October 10, 2026: rewritten with specs checked against Dreo’s official product page and user manual, a new comparison, a FAQ, and corrections to the earlier version. Prices change often, so we no longer quote one; use the buttons to see today’s Amazon price.

Quick answer: The Dreo ChefMaker Combi Fryer (model DR-KCM001S) is a 6-quart, 1,800 W smart air fryer built around three things most air fryers don’t have together: a wired cook probe, a 200 ml water-mist system, and ingredient-based “Chef Mode” programs that adjust heat and moisture on their own. It is best for people who mostly cook proteins (steak, salmon, chicken, pork chops) and want repeatable doneness without babysitting. If you mainly make fries, wings and frozen snacks, or need to cook two foods at once, a cheaper or two-basket air fryer is the better buy.

  • Buy it for: probe-controlled doneness, automatic Chef Mode, Wi-Fi app with video recipes and notifications.
  • Skip it if: you want the lowest price, a large family-size basket, or two independent zones.

How the ChefMaker works

Three cooking modes

  • Chef Mode: pick an ingredient (for example ribeye, salmon or chicken breast), choose doneness and flavor, and the CombiCook algorithm runs a multi-stage program, controlling temperature, time and water misting by itself. Dreo’s feature page lists 88+ ingredient-based presets (its product FAQ describes “more than 40” chef-curated programs; the library is updated through the app).
  • Classic Cook: a normal air fryer with eight functions: Air Fry, Reheat, Bake, Roast, Toast, Broil, Defrost and Dehydrate. You set time and temperature.
  • Probe Cook: you set the target internal temperature, and the fryer cooks until the probe reaches it. Useful for roasts, chops and anything you would normally check with a meat thermometer.

Cook probe and water atomizer

The included probe tracks the food’s temperature so the fryer knows when to slow down or stop, instead of relying on a timer. The 200 ml tank feeds a misting system that, according to Dreo, replaces evaporated moisture and briefly lowers the chamber temperature so the outside doesn’t char before the center is done. Note that the mist is used only in Chef Mode; Classic Cook and Probe Cook are dry-heat modes, so this is not a steam oven.

App and smart features

Over Wi-Fi, the Dreo app lets you browse video-guided recipes, send a cooking task to the fryer, watch progress, turn the light on, stop cooking, and get a notification when food is done. In Classic Cook and Probe Cook you can also change settings remotely. For safety, a task sent from the app has to be confirmed on the fryer before it starts. Because the ChefMaker has its own Wi-Fi, it doesn’t need a smart plug or a smart home hub to be controlled from your phone.

Design, size and cleaning

At about 15.4 lb and roughly 15.7 in tall, it is larger than a typical 6-quart basket fryer, so measure your counter and the space under your cabinets. The basket has a see-through glass section so you can check food without pulling it out, and the components are dishwasher-safe. Dreo also says no preheating is needed.

Pros and cons

  • ✅ Probe-controlled doneness: cooks to an internal temperature, not just a timer.
  • ✅ Hands-off Chef Mode: multi-stage programs manage heat and moisture for you.
  • ✅ Wide range: 100°F – 450°F, plus defrost and dehydrate.
  • ✅ Useful app: video recipes, remote monitoring and done notifications.
  • ✅ Easy cleanup: dishwasher-safe parts; glass window to check food.
  • ❌ Premium price compared with standard 6-quart air fryers.
  • ❌ Single 6-quart basket: fine for 1–3 people; larger batches mean cooking in rounds.
  • ❌ Water mist only works in Chef Mode.
  • ❌ Mixed long-term reports: a share of Amazon reviews mention units failing within about a year or probe problems, so register the warranty.
  • ❌ Bulky: taller and heavier than most basket air fryers.

  • Typhur Dome 2: the closest smart rival. It is the better pick if you air fry a lot of wings, fries and pizza and want a self-cleaning cycle; the ChefMaker is better for proteins thanks to its probe and Chef Mode.
  • Ninja Foodi DualZone DZ201: no app and no probe, but two independent baskets that can finish at the same time. Better for families who cook a main and a side together.

Who should buy the Dreo ChefMaker?

  • Buy it if you cook steak, salmon, chops or chicken often and want consistent results without a separate meat thermometer.
  • Buy it if you like app-guided recipes and getting a notification when dinner is ready.
  • Skip it if you mainly reheat and crisp frozen foods; a basic air fryer does that for much less.
  • Skip it if you regularly cook for 4+ people at once; look at a two-basket model.

Verdict

The Dreo ChefMaker is one of the few air fryers that is genuinely different: the probe, water mist and Chef Mode programs make it closer to an automatic countertop cooker than a basket fryer. It earns its place if proteins are what you cook most. If you mostly want crispy snacks, or you need more capacity, the Typhur Dome 2 or a Ninja DualZone will serve you better for the money.

Dreo ChefMaker FAQ

Is the Dreo ChefMaker just an air fryer?

It does everything a basic air fryer does in Classic Cook (Air Fry, Reheat, Bake, Roast, Toast, Broil, Defrost, Dehydrate), but it adds a cook probe, a 200 ml water-mist system and ingredient-based Chef Mode programs that control heat, time and moisture automatically.

What is the difference between Chef Mode, Classic Cook and Probe Cook?

Chef Mode runs automatic multi-stage programs for a chosen ingredient and doneness. Classic Cook is a standard air fryer where you set time and temperature. Probe Cook cooks until the probe reaches the internal temperature you choose.

Do I need Wi-Fi or the app to use it?

No. You can cook from the 4.3-inch touch display. The Dreo app over Wi-Fi adds video-guided recipes, remote monitoring, notifications and remote changes in Classic and Probe modes; tasks sent from the app must be confirmed on the fryer.

How much food does the ChefMaker hold?

It has a single 6-quart non-stick basket (about 8.85 × 8.85 × 5.1 in), which suits roughly 1–3 people per batch. For bigger families, a two-basket 8-quart model such as the Ninja Foodi DualZone holds more.

What warranty does the Dreo ChefMaker have?

Dreo covers it for 12 months from purchase by default. Amazon’s listing says the warranty can be extended up to 30 months by registering the product on Dreo’s website.

Can I plug the ChefMaker into a smart plug?

It already has Wi-Fi, so there is no need. It is also rated at 1,800 W, which is at the limit of a typical 15-amp smart plug, so plug it straight into a wall outlet. Our best smart plug guide explains what smart plugs are best used for.
